Children's Class Kyu Tests
Sensei has announced that
kyu testing will take place on Saturday, June 13, during the regular
children's class. She has also requested that our adult students
show up early that day, to give their encouragement and support.
As an aside, I would like
to say how proud I am of our youngest students. I was very
pleasantly surprised when I filled in recently as the substitute
instructor, and saw how rapidly everyone had progressed. Good
luck!
Adult Class Kyu Tests
Our next kyu testing for
our adult students will take place on Saturday, July 11 at 12:15pm. As always, Friday
night open mat classes are the best way to prepare for your test.
Upcoming Seminars
On June 27 and 28, Grady Lane Sensei of Brevard Aikikai will host Robert Zimmerman
Shihan of Toronto Aikikai.
Zimmerman Shihan is one of the highest ranking Aikido instructors in the
United States, and is a member of the technical committee of the United
States Aikido Federation.
Download the flyer
and registration form
and get ready for a great seminar. (If you register by June 15,
you can also save $10.) Interested? I hope so!

Student Calendar
We are pleased to announce
a new addition to the website – an interactive student calendar.
Unlike the class calendar, which we use to communicate our instructors'
teaching schedule, the student calendar is designed to offer a wider
scope. Geared for student to student communication, the calendar
allows our members to relay information to other members in a calendar
format. For example, students can coordinate training for open mat classes, arrange for carpools to
seminars, and even post requests to instructors. If you plan on
taking a vacation, and wish to notify your fellow students, the calendar
is a good way to let us know. Or if you wanted to bring a guest to
the dojo, you can easily mark the date for us to see. We also
intend to post important dates on the calendar, such as seminars, kyu
testing, and student birthdays. Essentially, the calendar is for
all things dojo related. Please keep in mind, however, that this
is a calendar, and not a forum, and is intended as a scheduling
convenience. (Of course, if you wish to sound off, you can always
take it to Tonya's blog.)
We've done our best to
limit access to the calendar, without making the
whole endeavor too cumbersome. The calendar is located on our login page,
which requires a username and password. (Can't remember yours?
Let us know.)
Having said that, nothing posted on the internet is ever truly private.
Please only post items that you wouldn't mind making public, to people
outside the dojo.
So...How does this thing
work? It's really easy. To add or modify events, simply
click on the date and follow the prompts. That's it! The
calendar even recognizes html for all you web jockeys out there.
(If you want to get really fancy, such as adding periodic events or
event categories, I'll refer you to the detailed instructions.)
Enjoy!
Movie Night
Barring any last minute
conflicts, we've decided to schedule the first movie night for Saturday,
June 13 at
7:30pm. Fittingly,
we will be enjoying Twilight Samurai, a film about Seibei Iguchi, a
conflicted samurai in the Tokugawa Shogunate. And yeah, the movie is awesome. Don't
believe me? Check out the Rotten Tomatoes reviews.
We'll project the movie on
our back wall, which will (hopefully) create a panoramic experience.
We'll supply the popcorn, free of charge, and have movie theater style
candy available for purchase. Of course, we'll have our usual
assortment of soft drinks available in our dojo refrigerator. To
help defray the costs of the projector, we're asking for a $5.00
donation at the
door. What a deal!
If you plan on coming,
please let us know.
Summer Promotion
Our summer promotion is in
full swing. In a nutshell, the promotion is a great way to save on
tuition while helping us grow the school. Can't remember the
details? We've got you covered. Check out the nitty gritty
in our April newsletter.
