Pictures of open mat class and the party afterwards. The potluck dishes were delicious, the beer was cold, and the company wonderful. We held the world premiere of “The Atomic Photobomber”, directed by Dee Seabolt and starring Kevin Johnston, Jerry Akel, and Jean-Claude Van Damme (yes, seriously.) We also saw Shogun Assassin (thank you Kevin), and DVD highlights from the 30th Anniversary USAF Summer Camp (thank you Buck).
And now an explanation of the wax hand. This past week Karen Beaudoin and Grady Lane had been sending Jerry texts (and pictures) describing various ingenious and painful variations of nikkyo Sensei wished to refine. On him. Of course, by Saturday, Jerry was a nervous wreck.
Turns out, however, that a week or so prior, Sensei and Karen visited Madame Tussauds wax museum in Orlando. Rather than apply nikkyo to Jerry, Sensei applied nikkyo to himself, (for a good bit of time apparently), memorializing the joint lock in wax. Karen and Grady then gave their gift to Jerry, who was obviously very relieved.
We plan to study the wax sculpture in class and use same as a model for our nikkyo going forward. Thank you both so much!
